By now you’ve come to realize that there are a vast variety of places to choose from and two of those you are looking at could be the Polynesian vs Wilderness Lodge. Both of these are extremely popular destinations for many people. In this piece we’ll go over the different things about both resorts in the hope that it will make your decision a little bit easier.
Resort Themes
Themes for some people are quite important because often it’s the them that sets the mood. When it comes to Polynesian vs Wilderness Lodge, the themes are totally different, so it really will depend on what kind of atmosphere mood you want to be put in.
The Polynesian resort offers its guests a South Pacific/Hawaiian theme. As soon as you arrive the atmosphere transports you to a tropical island and you immediately forget that you are in the middle of Florida. It actually smells tropical and an air of happiness just seems to feel the air. The theme is so inviting that many people will often just stay at the resort for a day or two before traveling outside of the resort.
The Wilderness Lodge has a theme that is totally different and worlds apart from an island paradise. Their theme is based on the wilderness that can be found in the Pacific Northwest and is geared for those who really love the great outdoors. One really nice feature is their indoor/outdoor river that starts in the main area and flows outside to the swimming pool. The buildings all have a cabin feel and are quite warm and inviting.
Resort Layouts
The layout is how each resort is laid out, where the buildings and transportation areas are laid out ease of access.
The first thing that is apparent when you see the Polynesian is really spread out. This is probably the biggest knock against this resort because everything in the resort is so far away from each other. The rooms are really far from the main entrance, the pool is pretty far from all the rooms, and so on. Now, most people don’t like this because after they’ve spend all day walking around in theme parks, they usually don’t want to walk even more at the end of the day.
Now with the Wilderness Lodge, you’ll notice just the opposite of the Polynesian, instead the Wilderness Lodge makes it easy to access everything at the resort. Their layout is not spread out and the main lodge is basically where most rooms are and this is great for people who just want to quickly get to their room and relax after a busy day exploring one or two theme parks.
Transportation
Most people who stay at resorts really believe that the resort offers transportation with the price and that’s understandable. Let’s take a look at what Polynesian vs Wilderness Lodge has to offer and how they differ.
The Polynesian offers both boat transport and the monorail at the resort. The problem with the monorail is that it takes a long time to get to the Magic Kingdom and that’s because it’s on what they call the Hotel Loop which means it stops at four other hotels before heading to the theme park. As for the boat, that too can be bit of a time consuming trip as well since it shares boats with the Wilderness Lodge and the Grand Floridian.
When you look at the Wilderness Lodge you might be a little happier when it comes to transportation because they offer a boat that goes directly to the Magic Kingdom without any stops. The direct boat to the Magic Kingdom can be caught at their pool and it’s really a nice relaxing trip to and from the resort. The other boat they offer of course is that one that’s shared with the Grand Floridian and the Polynesian. So, you might want to try and make sure you catch the direct route if you want to get there in about ten minutes.
Swimming Pools
For some people, pools are really a key feature for a resort. So, you probably then will be happy to know that usually Disney resort pools are generally above average.
At the Polynesian, their tropical paradise theme flows over to their swimming pool. If you have kids, they will love the large kids play zone along with a great water slide. The entire atmosphere continues the happiness of escaping to a tropical island.
As for the Wilderness Lodge, many rate their pool as one of the top, but it really depends on what you like. If you really like the Pacific Northwest outdoors feel then you’ll like the rugged look of the rock formations that make up the pool. The water slide is a popular feature for kids.
Little Extras
Little extras often are what gives a place it’s own special vibe and again it all depends upon what you like personally. Here’s some of the little extras the two resorts offer.
One of the best extras offered by the Polynesian is absolutely charming and it’s the actual little beach they’ve created at the pool area. Not only does it totally set the beach mood of the pool but it’s also one of the best places to be to watch the fireworks at the Magic Kingdom.
Something very special about the Wilderness Lodge is that the moment you walk in you immediately get a feeling that this place is really relaxed or laid back. The entire staff seem to be some of the friendliest of many of the resorts at Disney and they have a way of really making their guests feel welcome and at home. The river is the true little extra that makes the place seem very cozy and welcoming. What’s really nice is that you can dine by the river and really feel like you’re communing with nature at the same time. Great feature.
Resort Costs
When it comes to the cost, the Polynesian is priced somewhat higher than the Wilderness Lodge and if cost is number one for you, then the Lodge should win out. Otherwise, it really depends on what atmosphere you’re looking for because both are quite unique in their own way.
