If you’re considering a trip to Florida and are planning to visit the sites in and around the Orlando area, you of course are going to need a place to stay. In this article we’ll take a look at two in particular; Disney Animal Kingdom Lodge vs Wilderness Lodge. You might think that because they both have the word lodge in their titles that they might be pretty much the same but to be honest with you there an a lot of differences between these two Disney resorts. Even though their lobbies might seem somewhat similar, the lodges themselves are miles away from each other, and we mean miles. One of them is just a nice quick boat trip away from the Magic Kingdom while the other one is way on the opposite side of their property and is close to the Animal Kingdom.
Disney Animal Kingdom Lodge Vs Wilderness Lodge Themes
Disney Animal Kingdom Lodge Gets The Edge –
The theme is the toughest one to judge since most of the time these two lodges come in as #1 and #2 when it comes to themes. Both of them have huge lobbies and both of the hotels have plenty of places to find a quiet spot to get away from all the hustle and bustle of Disney World. Both of them make you feel like you’ve traveled back to a different place and time.
But, there are things that do move the Animal Kingdom Lodge a tad above the Wilderness Lodge and one of the main reasons is the fact that they have a huge savanna right outside of their lobby. Here you can find 30 different types of animals roaming right in the view of all their guests. Not all of the animals are from Africa but it’s still a great thing to experience. This is probably the only hotel in the entire country that offers this great animal experience.
Even though the Wilderness Lodge does have a great geyser, a lovely peaceful creek, and other lovely little touches, it just can’t compete with waking up in the morning to see a herd of bison grazing in plain view. Another thing that puts the Animal Kingdom Lodge also displays incredible pieces of authentic African art and the attention to detail in the lobby really gives it a feel of authenticity.
Disney Animal Kingdom Lodge Vs Wilderness Lodge Rooms
Animal Kingdom Lodge Gets The Edge –
Again, this is a close call. Both of these resorts have recent updates that have addressed some of the guest complaints about the rooms being very dark and even dreary. The rooms now are more balanced and a little more modern.
Even though both lodges rooms are nice Animal Kingdom Lodge’s new designs are more detailed and they have more balance and stick to the theme of the entire lodge somewhat better than the Wilderness Lodge. Even though both of the lodges rooms are close what gives Animal Kingdom the edge is that you can actually watch live animals from the balconies of a variety of their rooms.
Disney Animal Kingdom Lodge Vs Wilderness Lodge Dining
Animal Kingdom Lodge Gets The Edge –
Again, it looks like Animal Kingdom Lodge has the win here because of it’s very well-rounded dining options offer places to eat such as The Mara, Boma, Victoria Falls Lounge, and Jiko. They are all pretty close to be best in their class for options at a very high level.
Also if you also add the Sanaa to the above mix, which is just a quick walk to Kidani Village, the dining at the Disney Animal Kingdom is simply the best in all of Disney World, almost unfair to the Wilderness Lodge, but the truth is the truth, they offer superior dining experiences.
This is not to say that the Wilderness Lodge doesn’t have good dining, they do, just not as top notch as Animal Kingdom. They do offer the Artist Point, Territory Lounge, Whispering Canyon Cafe, Roaring Fork, and Geyser Point Bar & Grill. Even though they offer pretty good food, they still just don’t compare to the Animal Kingdom.
Disney Animal Kingdom Lodge Vs Wilderness Lodge Location/Transportation
Wilderness Lodge Gets The Edge –
Even though Wilderness Lodge wins here when it comes to transportation and location is not because it’s the closest to everything it’s the fact that even though the Animal Kingdom Lodge is closer to more of the parks than the Wilderness Lodge, it’s the fact that the only way to get to any of the parks is by taking bus rides and these bus rides can be quite crowded and they can take quite some time to get to where you want to go, and this gives this lodge a bad rap for their transportation and location.
The main reason why the Wilderness Lodge wins here is that it is a simple and relaxing boat ride to the Magic Kingdom and of course, the Magic Kingdom to this day is still the most popular of all the parks that guests want to visit.
Disney Animal Kingdom Lodge Vs Wilderness Lodge Pools
Animal Kingdom Lodge Has The Edge –
When it comes to Disney World pools top ten list these come in at a modest ranking of 5th and 9th, which gives the Animal Kingdom the edge since they come in at #5. You can find the best pool out of the two resorts over at the Kidani Village.
Even though their ranking numbers seem to have a big gap, in fact both resorts pools are quite nice and they have nice feature pools with quite strong supporting feature players that add to their fun and charm. But still if one were to say definitively which one had the better pool it would go to the Animal Kingdom Lodge at the Kidani Village.
Disney Animal Kingdom Lodge Vs Wilderness Lodge Cost
Disney Animal Kingdom Lodge vs Wilderness Lodge A Push –
When it comes to deluxe resorts at Disney World, these two would be the least costly ones. Both of these lodges have identical pricing so they get a push when it comes to the cost of their rooms. However, during certain times of the year, such as Christmas, you will find that the Wilderness Lodge is more expensive.
