0203 950 7371If you’re planning to take a holiday at Disney World you of course you will need a place to stay, so in this post we’ll cover the Art of Animation vs Port Orleans French Quarter in order to make your decision making a little bit easier, after all, there are a ton of resorts to choose from and it can be quite a daunting task.
Port Orleans French Quarter Theme
The Port Orleans French Quarter is a “moderate” resort that has a theme that’s been inspired by the French Quarter in New Orleans. This resort is located close to Disney Springs which is on the Sassagoula River where you can take a relaxing horse drawn carriage, much like you find in the French Quarter of New Orleans. They have an anteroom type of lobby and you will enter into an outdoor themed area with cobblestone flooring, a water fountain which is complete with French Quarter light posts. Very charming lobby entry.
Most guests find that the Port Orleans French Quarter theme is one of the better themed resorts outside of the “deluxe” resorts. The architecture is done so well it makes guests feel like they are actually in the real French Quarter. The streets, pathways and building fronts pull you right into the French Quarter right down to the wrought iron elements and the street signs all help to give this resort more of a realistic feel. There’s far less whimsy here than some of the other resorts and seems more adult, because of this kids often don’t really like this resort.
Art Of Animation Theme
Now, the Art of Animation is considered a “value” resort which of course means the prices are lower than that of “moderate” and “deluxe” resorts. The theme is inspired by several different Disney movies that include Little Mermaid, The Lion King, Finding Nemo, and Cars. This is the ideal place to stay if you want your entire trip to be filled with the magic that’s Disney. The resort is divided into different sections according to the different movies noted above.
The Little Mermaid area is of course all about Little Mermaid and the many different character from the movie. This also is the only section that offers standard rooms. Cars, The Lion King, and Finding Nemo are all themed after their movies and offer all family suites.
Port Orleans French Quarter Rooms
Most of the rooms you find at the French quarter have two queens, but there are some king bed rooms. Most of the rooms at both “moderate” and “value” resorts are all set up in a motel style rooms. Most of the rooms are inspired by the Victorian type décor you’ll find in New Orleans. You’ll find Tiffany blue walls that go nicely with the furniture that’s a natural dark wood. The flooring are wood and have two different shades of brown which go well with the rest of the room design. All the rooms at the French Quarter offer these amenities:

All of the rooms sleep up to four people but you can request a cot for an extra child. They do offer different views that include:

Standard view – Basically the views here are of the parking lots.

Garden view – Just what their names suggest, you have views of different landscaping and courtyards.

Pool view – These rooms have a view of the Doubloon Lagoon which is very near the pool.

River view – This is probably the most peaceful of the views where you can enjoy looking out over the Sassagoula River.
Art Of Animation Rooms
The Little Mermaid section of the resort is where you will find their standard rooms that have two queens or one king and sleep up to four people and all have the theme inspired by the movie. There are no choice of views for the rooms like other resorts, but the rooms are charming and whimsical. The other rooms are all family suites and they can sleep up to six people and have a bedroom with one queen and the living area has a sofa sleeper and a table bed. Port Orleans French Quarter Restaurants
The Port Orleans French Quarter doesn’t offer any table service options but they do have a food court called Sassagoula Floatworks and Food Factory and both of them are most of the time open from 6:00 am to midnight every day. The food court offers a variety of foods such as burgers, pasta, pizza, po’ boy sandwiches, jambalaya, beignets and much more. They also offer two different bars the Scat Cat’s Club which is indoors and the Mardi Grogs which is an outdoor bar located at the pool.
Art Of Animation Restaurants
Like the Port of Orleans French Quarter, Art of Animation does not have any table service options but offers their own food court called Landscape Flavors found in the lobby. They offer breakfast, lunch, and dinner and offer breakfast items, burgers, salads, pasta, pizza, sandwiches and more. They also have a pool bar that has a full bar serving variety of beverages, snacks and a few cold sandwiches.
Port Orleans French Quarter Pool
The French Quarter has one pool called Doubloon Lagoon and features a giant sea serpent with Neptune encircling the entire area. The tongue of the serpent is a water slide. The pool also includes a kiddie play area nearby for the younger kids to have some fun.
Art Of Animation Pool
Unlike Port Orleans, this resort has three pools and the feature is called The Big Blue Pool which is the biggest pool of all the resorts. It’s also the one with a lot of features that draw the kids to have a lot of fun with the different water features. It also has a water play area for younger kids. The Big Blue is inspired by Finding Nemo. Their other two pools are the Flippin’ Fins pool is inspired by Little Mermaid and the Cozy Cone Pool is inspired by Cars.
