A Brief History
The Disney All Star Sports Resort is one of five of Disney’s value resorts. It was built on 90 acres and first opened it’s doors in April of 1994. It was the hope of Disney World to attract sports loving travelers on a budget and still give them the Disney quality of more expensive resorts.
Hotel Category
Like the other All Star Resorts, the Disney All Star Sports Resort is considered a “value” resort because it cost far less than the “moderate” and “deluxe” resorts at Disney World. When it comes to the average rating that it generally receives from those who have stayed there averages 3.9 stars out of 5 stars.
Hotel Theme
If you are really into sports, you’ll find the sports theme of the Disney All Star Sports Resort, right up your alley. Here you’ll find a variety of sports themes that include
-
Tennis
-
Basketball
-
Football (American)
-
Baseball
-
Surfing
You’ll discover a variety of classical Disney characters on the grounds everywhere, all larger than life as well as larger than life sports equipment. Each of the buildings that are guest rooms have each sport represented at each of the buildings.
Last Major Refurbishment
It appears that this resort has not been refurbished in quite some time, not even during the time they were shut down during Covid. However, the latest news is that they are indeed scheduled to be refurbished some time in 2023.
Location, Transportation & Accessibility To Parks
Like the other All Star Resorts, the Disney All Star Sports Resort is located in the Animal Kingdom area which means then that the closest park to the resort would be the Animal Kingdom park.
When it comes to transportation, it is limited. You either take the Disney bus line or call an Uber, Lyft, or one of their “Minnie” Vans in order to get to the four different theme parks and their two water parks, Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon, along with Disney Springs.
The bus lines can get quite long, especially at certain times of the day, so you might consider taking a ride share or even call one of their “Minnie” vans especially if you don’t like sitting on a crowded bus.
Even though lines can be long, most travel times to get to wherever you want generally take anywhere from 10 to 15 minutes, so the drive time isn’t all that time.
Rooms
When it comes to all of the different All Star resorts belonging to Disney World, the All Star Sports does have the smallest rooms out of all of them. They do offer 1,920 rooms and over 900 of them are connecting which makes it nicer for larger parties. Even though the rooms might be smaller, they still tend to be comfortable and will sleep up to four adults or two adults and two children.
They do offer cots if you have more than four people in your party.
Most of their rooms offer two double beds or one King. They offer a beverage cooler, a large flat TV, table and chairs, phone, dresser, nightstand, closet, and a luggage rack. They offer free WiFi, wall safe and they have a vanity and dressing area that’s separate from the bathroom.
The rates for the rooms will vary depending upon what time of year you decide to stay and where the rooms are located:

Pros For Staying At The All Star Sports Resort
Like anywhere you might consider staying there are always going to be pros and cons. So let’s take a look at some of the pros for staying at the Disney All Star Sports Resort include:
-
Cost –
Like other value resorts, the top pro always is the price of the rooms. This is a great place for sports fans on a budget and still be able to get a taste of the Disney quality and charm.
-
Kid Friendly –
Yet another resort that really caters to the kids with all of it’s super fun themes and the larger than life colorful icons and Disney characters all over the 90 acre resort.
-
Multiple Pools –
There are several different pools through the entire resort and of course they do have one main pool that many of the guests really love because of all it’s larger than life sports icons. But no matter where you might be staying at, you’ll be close to one pool or another.
-
Clean and Comfortable –
Even though you might find a lot more amenities at the moderate and deluxe resorts, you will find this one very clean and quite comfortable.
-
Proximity –
One really nice feature of all the All Star Resorts is that they are all very close to one another and this means you can visit and enjoy all of them if you prefer.
Cons Of Staying At The Disney All Star Sports Resort
As with any place you might stay there’s more than likely going to be some cons and here are the ones that many guests have mentioned which include:
-
Long Walk –
The resort is 90 acres and that means a lot of walking just to get to places within the resort.
-
No Table Service –
A lot of people seem to not like the idea of just a food court instead somewhere they can get served at a table.
-
Small Rooms –
The rooms are the smallest of all the value resorts and that’s disappointing for many, especially with children.
-
Crowded & Noisy –
This is a pretty common complaint, that the resort is very noisy and crowded no matter where you are at.
Types Of Families This Is Best For
It really seems that the Disney All Star Sports Resort would be best for small families with just one or two children, unless you want to have two connecting rooms, which then means you’re spending more money.
Various Trip Adviser Reviews
Here are a few reviews from Trip Adviser and those who have stayed at the Disney All Star Sports Resort themselves:
“I have stayed at this hotel many times and given it a great review. I’m not sure if changes and staffing levels since Covid are the problem but my experience this time was really disappointing. The rooms were not cleaned daily. Beds were left unmade, towels unchanged and trash wasn’t collected. I nearly wrote DIRTY in the dust on top of the TV unit. The wildlife in the bathroom was unwelcome! Twice chasing something with pincers and once slipping on something that looked like a fat worm! When I pulled my bed covers back and there were ants there I’d had enough. I went down to reception and complained and the young lady dismissed me with “oh it’s just the heat I’ll get someone to spray the room. Don’t worry it it’s not harmful to you!” I wasn’t happy. No apology! Nothing! I’ve stayed there in the height of the summer and never had wildlife in the room and couldn’t help thinking the lack of cleaning had a lot to do with it. It may be a value resort but a lack of cleanliness is not acceptable.”
“Disney has changed so much and not for the better in some cases. T/he Value resorts like Disney All-Star Sports Resort is no longer a value resort it is as high as any other hotel. Making up for COVID losses? most likely yes. It is being harder to stay at a WDW property unless you are rolling in the money.”
“We were lucky to be able to stay in a newly refurbished room in building 10. We loved the pull down bed. We liked the sport theming and spaces to be able to throw a ball around!
All the staff we spoke to were really friendly and took the time to help us.
When we were there it was fairly quiet as they were refurbishing some buildings and there were no big sport events. We used the buses and they were efficient. There were showers at the main pool which we used after a morning at the pool after checking out before heading to the airport.
We love Disney World and would go back to this resort. It was our first time in a value resort (the prices have gone up so much since our last trip) and we were pleasantly surprised how good it was!”
“Because it’s in Florida and the weather is great, the hotel was fine but honestly rooms could have been a bit cleaner. It’s “magical” to open the door with the app when it works. My husband was pissed off and ended requesting a physical key card, that, yes was free, but if the app is supposed to work it’s what you expect. Same for the fast ordering on the app, you need to find the right spot to avoid losing WiFi. Again, for American citizen, with internet data no problem but a big issue for international travelers (the hotel doesn’t give the possibility to buy sim cards). Very expensive food taking into account that it’s not the most healthy at all. We were so happy to leave just to eat normally. I must say the breakfasts were very good! One great thing is the attention from the staff as soon as you put a foot in the lobby…so nice people!! The swimming pool is also great, especially for kids. In the end, no regrets even if it wasn’t the best hotel I visited in Disney World but it was worth because of all the advantages of staying in hotel in the park.”
Other Disney Properties Similar
If you don’t find Disney All Star Sports Resort to your liking, there are other value resorts such as the following:
-
Art of Animation –
Which has a theme that evolves around some of the most popular animated movies from Disney.
-
Pop Culture –
This one offers a great theme for those who love nostalgia for it covers the fads of the 50’s through the 90’s.
-
All Star Movies –
Which has the theme of some popular Disney movies for those that are into the movies.
-
All Star Music –
Is great for the music lovers in your life and is also nice for larger families since they offer family suites.
Our Thoughts & Verdict
It seems to have a great draw for those who are really into different American sports and that’s a good thing if you and the kids are really into sports. It has a cute and charming theme with larger than life sports items and Disney characters all through the large 90 acre resort. However, we don’t recommend it for large groups or big families since the rooms are the smallest and would mean you’d need to pay for connecting rooms and that would nullify the whole budget idea.
