The Basics Of The Animal Kingdom Lodge
This resort opened up back in 2001 and it is located pretty close to Disney’s Animal Kingdom theme park. It’s also considered a “Deluxe” resort that is located on a real 33 acre preserve for wildlife. Then in 2009, they added their second part of the lodge and called it Kidani Village which is adjacent to the Animal Kingdom Lodge. After the new property was added, they renamed the lodge to “Jambo House”. They both have great amenities and their hospitality are out of this world.
Even if you stay at one resort you can easily visit the other one by taking a walk from one to the other or use their shuttle system that will save you time and effort of walking if you don’t feel like walking. However, if you decide to walk from the lobby of Jambo House to the Kidani Village will only take you ten minutes. You’ll find that their path is well marked with plenty of signs making it very easy to find.

Rooms at Jambo House – When it comes to the Jambo House, they offer guests a variety of different kinds of rooms. They offer a standard room which is about 350 square feet in size and offers the choice of two Queens or one Queen and bunk beds. These rooms also have your standard bathroom that has two sinks. They also have a mini-refrigerator, coffee maker, a table with two chairs and it’s own balcony.
You’ll also find that there are different standard views to choose from that will vary in price. You can pick the standard rooftop or parking lot view, the Pool View, or the Savanna View. The going rate for a standard room is generally about $479 including tax, per night. But you can get it discounted if you book your room several months ahead of time. The discount is usually about 30% off the price.
They also offer Studio Villas and are about 375 square feet and sleep four guests. They offer a Queen bed along with a full sized sleeper sofa. The studios also have a kitchenette that has a sink, mini-fridge, microwave, toaster, cabinets and even some food prep items.
By the way, if you book standard rooms in the fall, you will pay are less like $170 to $200 per night and these rooms even have partial Savannah views and pool views.
Jambo House also offers one and two bedrooms and Grand Villas. The one bedrooms have full kitchens that include a full refrigerator, stove, dishwasher and more. Their living rooms have a dining area, full sized sleeper sofa and the bedroom has a King bed, it’s own bathroom with a spa tub and even their own washer and dryer.
Jambo House villas are extremely popular so it can be extremely difficult to get one so you will really have to plan way ahead of your vacation.
Kidani Village Rooms – When it comes to Disney Animal Kingdom Jambo House vs Kidani Village rooms, there are several subtle differences between their rooms. Kidani Village only offers villas and their rooms are also a little bigger than the ones at the Jambo House.
When it comes to the studios, the bathrooms only have one sink. Otherwise, the studios are exactly the same.
Their one bedrooms offer a second bathroom and that could a big difference for families or larger groups. The two bedrooms at Kidani Village offers two Queens in it’s second bedroom instead of just one Queen and a sleeper sofa. The two bedrooms are a good size of 1,175 square feet and they too have another bathroom, that means they have three bathrooms!
One thing to be aware of is that the Kidani Village is really big. If you have a room that’s far from their lobby you’ll find that it will take a lot of walking to get there and just about anywhere at Kidani Village.
So if you are looking for a standard room, you’ll want to get a room at Jambo House and if you’re looking for more space, then Kidani Village would be a good choice.
Viewing Wildlife: Jambo House vs Kidani Village
The key thing that makes Animal Kingdom Lodge stand out among all the Disney resorts is their savanna. They actually have four different ones at the Lodge. Jambo House and Kidani Village share the main one called Sunset Savanna. There you’ll see over 200 different birds and mammals that represent nearly 40 different species that live on the savannah and you’ll find different types of animals on all the the different savannahs. Some animals you’ll see include:
- Giraffe
- Zebra
- Ankole Cattle
- Flamingos
- Okapi
- African Crowned Cranes
The main place for viewing animals at the Jambo House is the “Arusha Rock” Here guests can explore and find a guide, generally from Africa who can explain about all of the different animals. There’s also a fire pit where guests can relax around a campfire roasting marshmallows. They also offer night goggles so you can view the animals during the early evening and at night at the “Arusha Rock”.
You can also go to the second floor of the Jambo House by the lobby to view the animals. There you can sit in rocking chairs and since this area is higher up you can actually get much better pictures.
Kidani Village has it’s own viewing areas complete with guides, a fire pit and binoculars. Also, it seems that you can see more of the animals at Kidani than you can at the Jambo House. They are also much closer at Kidani than at the Jambo House.
