Planning a trip to Disney World? If that’s the case, you will need to have some place to stay during your vacation. If you have the money you may want to take a look at a couple of resorts that catch the eye of many visitors: Disney Wilderness Lodge vs Animal Kingdom (Lodge). Even though they both have “lodge” in their titles, there really are a lot of differences between the two. Let’s take a look at these two resorts.
Disney Wilderness Lodge Vs Animal Kingdom Themes
When it comes to themes, they both are great and there really is no true loser here. They are both great so they come out tied to be honest. Basically, these two resorts probably have the two best themes out of all the resorts. Both of these resorts have huge, and we mean huge lobbies that are just awe inspiring and they both offer their guests plenty of places where they can find a quiet spot to escape from the hustle and bustle of the outside world.
But, if we were to choose whose theme beats the other it would have to be the Animal Kingdom because of the huge savanna that you find right outside their lobby. Guests get to see animals that include mountain goats, angora goats, pygmy goats, giraffe, zebra, condors, even manatees, and plenty more, They have a total of 30 different types of animals roaming freely on the savanna.
The Wilderness Lodge does offer a nice geyser and a calm and peaceful creek to enjoy but they have nothing like Animal Kingdom. And plenty of wonderful places to enjoy while there, but there’s nothing like the experience of viewing wildlife right from your own room.
Disney Wilderness Lodge Vs Animal Kingdom Rooms
Again, this is a close call because both of these resorts have room styles that are loved and hated by some. They both have been recently renovated which have actually addressed the main complaint of the rooms being too dreary and dark. Today, both of these resorts now have a more modern and well-balanced theme than before.
Sadly though, Wilderness Lodge resort might have gone a little overboard on their remodel because it seems that they took away far too much of their wood carvings which really gave you that African feel. So because of that, gives the Animal Kingdom a slight edge when it comes the better rooms. Another plus for the Animal Lodge is that you can watch animals roaming free from balconies of many of the rooms, and what better way to wake up in the morning?
Disney Wilderness Lodge Vs Animal Kingdom Dining
At every single level, it’s the Animal Kingdom that wins when it comes to dining. They offer great food, considered top by many experts with restaurants like “The Mara”, “Victoria Falls Lounge”, “Jiko” and “Boma”. Then if you add the “Sanaa” to this mix, which is just a short walk to the Kidani Village, you probably have the most well rounded dining choices anywhere at Disney World. In fact, it’s only true competition in all of Disney World might be the “Grand Floridian”.
As for Wilderness Lodge, it’s not that they don’t offer good food, it’s just not anywhere near what the Animal Kingdom offers. They do offer decent fare at the “Artist Point”, “Territory Lounge”, “Geyser Point Bar & Grill”, “Whispering Canyon Cafe”, and “Roaring Fork”. The lodge is making good strides to improve things, for example, they’ve added “Story Book Dining” at their Artist Point and it’s probably one of the best character meals found in Disney World. The kids will definitely enjoy it!
Disney Wilderness Lodge Vs Animal Kingdom Location & Transportation
It might come as a surprise, but it’s the Animal Kingdom Lodge that is actually somewhat closer to more of the parks than the Wilderness Lodge is. Many have complained that Animal Kingdom seems so far away, but it really is more convenient to get to three of the parks and even Disney Springs. However, for most people, they feel that the Wilderness Lodge is far more convenient because one of the most popular parks is of course the Magic Kingdom and you can take a relaxing boat ride to and from Wilderness Lodge to get there and this is why Wilderness Lodge seems to have the edge when it comes to location for most people.
Disney Wilderness Lodge Vs Animal Kingdom Pools
There are several other resorts that have far better pools, but that doesn’t mean that you won’t enjoy the pools that these resorts offer. The resort that has the slight edge here is the Animal Kingdom and you will find the superior pool can be found at their Kidani Village and it really has a nicer pool area that the Wilderness Lodge. The pool at the Kidani Village has a lot of nice features and has a nice calm and peaceful atmosphere.
Disney Wilderness Lodge Vs Animal Kingdom Cost
When it comes to cost and deluxe resorts in all of Disney World, these two would come it at the two least costly. Even though prices for rooms are pretty much the same for both the Wilderness Lodge and the Animal Kingdom, there is no clear winner here. About the only time of the year you might see a difference would be during Christmas when the Wilderness Lodge tends to be more expensive than the Animal Kingdom. Then there are other times during the year where the Animal Kingdom charges more. But no matter what, being the cheaper of all the deluxe resorts, it’s important to note that you still receive an extremely high quality experience that are comparable to all the other deluxe resorts.
The Animal Kingdom, might have a slight edge when it comes to cost because unlike the Wilderness Lodge, the Animal Kingdom will offer discounts on rates off and on during the year of up to 30% off their regular room rates.
Conclusion
Even though it’s really tough to say which one is the best, there are a few things about the Animal Kingdom, such as the savanna with all the wild animals and their top of the line food would give them a slight edge when choosing which one to stay at.
