When planning a trip to Walt Disney World from the UK it’s going to take a lot of research and work to make sure that you have the best time ever. On top of getting the right flight and plan out what things you’re going to see and do, you will want to find the right room as well. If you have it boiled down to a couple such as the Pop Century Resort and the All-Star Resorts you might be wondering is Pop Century is better than All-Stars. When it comes to which one we prefer, in all honesty, it would be the Pop Culture Resort because of it’s vast variety of themes in just one place. It offers more variety that has something to please everyone in the family. Unlike the All-Stars because they focus just on one basic theme.

A Little About The Themes

All-Star resorts themes include sports, music, and movies. With sports you’ll find a variety of different sports represented like baseball, football, tennis, and bowling. The music resort offers a variety of different genre’s of music through the years, and then the movies resort deals with a variety of different endearing and fun Disney movies.

This resort takes their guests through the different 20th century pop cultures and it reflects to some extent the way people, played, communicated, and lived. When you look at it, it is somewhat similar to all of the All-Star Resorts with all of their over-sized icons that are located all through the grounds. They have silhouettes that illustrate dances of a particular decade that adorn the front of every building, and all the roofs are lined with famous “catch-phrases” of a particular decade. For example with the 60’s decade you’ll see “Peace, Love, Happiness”.

The Imagineers worked with a lot of the original manufacturers in order to recreate a lot of the Resort’s icons. You’ll also find some of the original toys and objects were obtained and then were digitized for a machine that then would create full-sized replicas based on the exact measurements of each icon. Then the foam was replaced with some steel armatures and then covered in fiberglass. Then they were painted to add finishing touches. (This is how all of the different icons for all the resorts are made.)

The Different Themes at Pop Culture

  • The 1950’s –

Here you’ll find giant sock hoppers dancing on the sides of all the buildings dancing to be-bop and classic rock n roll music from it’s 40 foot tall tabletop jukebox that is the anchor of the courtyard. You’ll also find a pool that’s in the shape of a bowling pin. You’ll also enjoy the pups from “Lady and the Tramp” gazing at one another from across the courtyard.

  • The 1960’s –

Here you’ll find psychedelic and tie-dyed colors are the huge focus here. You’ll also see Play-Doh Pete, who once adorned the labels of Play-Doh with their giant can of this popular toy. Out of the top of the can you’ll see different animal creations that include a yellow giraffe and a blue elephant. In the courtyard you’ll find giant Duncan yo-yos at the end of the buildings. Their main feature is their Hippy Dippy pool which is a flower shaped.

  • The 1970’s –

In the courtyard you’ll find a huge Big Wheel, a classic Mickey Mouse rotary dial phone. Between these two towering icons you are greeted by giant foosball players. You’ll find -track tapes, and other musical mediums of this decade at the corner of every building.

  • The 1980’s –

The key feature here would be the gigantic Rubik’s Cube on each building both of which are 40 feet tall, each cube is seen in different stages of of completion. Across the courtyard you’ll find the Sony Walkman complete with headphones.

  • The 1990’s –

This closes out the 20th century. Here they pay tribute to the computer and the cell phone with a giant laptop as the centerpiece and then a very early model of a cell phone.

Pop Culture Rooms Prices

Just like the All-Stars, the Pop Century Resort is considered to be a “value resort” and the prices do tend to be less expensive than the “moderate and deluxe” resorts. They also don’t charge for kids under 17 years old when they are staying in the same room with their parents. However, if you have over two adults in your room, there will be an extra $10.00 or £7.15 per person, per night. The rooms do have a maximum of four guests per room and one child under three.

The room rates for any Walt Disney resort is going to vary by each season as well as what days of the week you’ll be there. Holiday seasons are going to be the most expensive and this runs from mid-December to the early part of January. The week of Easter also falls into that category. Here is a list of the average room rates:

  • Standard room – $154.00 to $316 or £110.06 to £225.85 per night
  • Preferred room – $171.00 to $338.00 or £122.21 to £241.57 per night
  • Standard pool view room – $161.00 to $317.00 or £115.07 to £226.56 per night
  • Preferred pool view room – $182.00 to $336.00 or £130.08 to £240.14

All-Star Room Prices

Room prices vary by season just like the Pop Culture Resort:

  • Standard room – $99.00 to $191.00 or £70.76 to £136.51 per night
  • Preferred room – $120.00 to $215.00 or £85.76 to £153.66
  • Standard pool view room – $102.00 to $222.00 or £130.08 to £156.66 per night
  • Preferred room – $141.00 to $236 or £100.77 to £330.21 per night

As you can see, it does tend to be less expensive to stay at one of the All-Star resorts, but take into consideration that the themes are limited and are aimed at those who might be solely interested in sports, music, or movies. Pop Culture covers more things and it’s easier to please everyone with more variety.
