If you’re planning a trip from the UK to Walt Disney World you no doubt will want to stay at one of their wonderful resorts as well. If the Contemporary Resort is on your radar, you may wonder is the Contemporary Resort worth it? We will try to give you enough information on this resort in order for you to decide for yourself if this resort is worth it for you and your family.
Brief Overview
The Contemporary Resort is probably as close as one can get to staying inside the Magic Kingdom itself without actually doing that. It’s done in a very family friendly manner, especially for families who have younger kids. This resort is right on Disney’s monorail and guests can get the chance to meet a variety of Disney characters right there at the resort.
Even though Walt Disney did die a few years prior to Walt Disney World opening in 1971, he still played a large role in the planning of the original design of this magical place where kids and adults who are kids at heart dreams come true. The very first resorts that opened up at the start were Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort and then the very iconic Contemporary Resort.
Even though it can be quite expensive, the Contemporary Resort to many is well worth it because they experience the way Disney envisioned for people. Even though there’s nothing wrong with staying off-site, but if this is a once in a lifetime trip, you may want to seriously consider staying at a place like The Contemporary Resort.
Booking For The Contemporary Resort
Though you can book Disney World Resorts by using points, you can also book entry level rooms by paying with your debit or credit card and look for Disney sales. Without a sale rooms range from $400.00 to $600.00 or £288.56 to £432.84 per night. But with sales the rooms can drop to $300.00 or £216.42 per night especially if you don’t go during the peak times of the year. Also, in some cases, the longer you stay, the lower the price will be depending on the time of year as well.
Resort Location
If you’re looking for the perfect location, especially if you are most interested in the Magic Kingdom, then this resort is the ideal one for you because it’s all about location, location, and location. Not only is it a very easy walk from the resort to the Magic Kingdom, you can also choose to take the monorail to the Magic Kingdom since it stops right inside of the Contemporary Resort.
If you feel like walking, you will find that you can actually get to the Magic Kingdom a few minutes faster walking than you’ll get there by the monorail. This is because the monorail has to make stops at the Polynesian Village Resort, the Ticketing and Transportation Center, and the Grand Floridian Resort before taking guests to the Magic Kingdom. However, at the end of the day when heading back to the resort you might want to take the monorail because it would be its first stop on its schedule.
You can also take the monorail or walk to the EPCOT as well at Hollywood studios. The walk to Hollywood Studios is somewhat of a longer walk from the resort so you might want to take the monorail, especially if you have kids.
Check-In
The lobby of the Contemporary is extremely modern and almost reminds you of Tomorrowland you’ll find at the Magic Kingdom. If you arrive in the mornings often you won’t find much of a line when you check-in, you can also avoid lines by checking in online. When booking your room, make sure to ask for the kind of room you want before checking in.
The lobby is set up so that it’s very kid friendly because they have an entire area set up for the kids where they can enjoy themselves by watching Disney cartoons and movies.
Rooms
As much money one has to pay for most these rooms, you might feel a little bit let down because the rooms really aren’t exceptional. It’s not that they aren’t nice rooms it’s just the fact that anything at Disney World is going to be quite costly compared to any of the off-site hotels that are out there in the “real world”.
Even though the rooms aren’t perfect, it seems it’s the magic of the Magic Kingdom just basically right outside your room will keep you smiling. It also helps that the service guests receive when they stay at any resort at Disney World is always going to be world class so that you can be assured that you, as a guest will be treated like royalty.
Pixar Play Zone
One special feature you’ll find a the Contemporary is that they offer an opportunity for parents to have some time away from the kids by dropping them off at the Pixar Play Zone located on the fourth floor. This is where you can drop the kids off for some playtime while you go off and perhaps do some personal shopping, relax by the pool, or perhaps just take a short nap in your room. It can be expensive however if you have more than one child since this service does cost you $65.00 or £46.89 per child.
Food & Drinks
One of the more popular places to enjoy some good food can be found at Chef Mickey’s, here’s where you can enjoy a variety of food and also get treated to character meals where you and the family can meet some of your favorite Disney characters while eating.
They serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner. For around $40.00 or £28.86 and a little bit less for the kids, you all can fill up your plates with all you can eat at breakfast that includes a great waffle bar that has a great selfie station, buttermilk biscuits, hickory smoked bacon, delicious classic scrambled eggs and tons more to choose from.
Note – Even though the rooms are not outstanding, the convenience and the continual Disney magic that surrounds you everywhere you go at the resort for many, makes this resort a classic favorite.
