When booking holidays to disney world you may be wondering whether or not Disney are currently offering extra magic hours. In our current post we look at whether this is currently being offered to Disney for its guests that are staying onsite.

Biggest Change

Their biggest change has been to try and help curb the spread of the virus, they decided to cut events that tend to draw huge crowds like “Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party” and the “Candlelight Processional” found at Epcot. They also have cut down on their holiday show called “Castle Dream Lights”. They also made sure that their photo ops with all Disney characters and Santa Claus would be socially distanced.

During The 2020 Season

When Disney re-opened in the summer of 2020, they did so by suspending any new hotel reservations, ticket sales, dining and experiences like FastPass+, and even limited their Extra Magic Hours. The reason why they decided to suspend any new ticket sales and resort reservations was so that they could focus more on accommodating their guests who already had existing reservations and tickets.

All of their theme parks have been operating at limited capacities and restaurants were and still are adhering to social distancing. Because of this they decided to cancel all existing dining reservations. They also canceled all of their experience bookings because many of them would be either limited by capacity or closed when the park re-opened.

Resort Perks

When you stay at a Disney World resort you do get some special perks and one of those perks are the Extra Magic Hours and even though the pandemic has forced Disney to do things differently. However, when things are “normal” and they hope they’ll return soon, they offer the extra hours at different theme parks. Some of the areas where this benefit usually happens include:

  • Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Hollywood Studios
  • Disney’s Animal Kingdom
  • Magic Kingdom

Park, Date & Times

Here’s the rundown of their limited Extra Magic Hours that they’ve put together and hope to be able to maintain for their guests:

  • Disney’s Hollywood Studios – In this park it’s done on a daily basis beginning September 1 through November 2. The Extra Magic Hours are from 6:00 am to 9:00 am and this includes “Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge”, Toy Story Land and a few other select attractions. The Extra Magic Hours for the Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is definitely subject to their capacity limitations. (Note: Disney World warns that August 29-31 they are offer the Extra Hours to everyone.)
  • Disney’s Animal Kingdom – For this park, the extra hours are daily from August 29 through November 2 and they offer one extra hour from 7:00 am to 8:00. The main features included is Pandora – The World of Avatar and some select attractions all through the Animal Kingdom.
  • The Magic Kingdom – For this park you can experience the extra hours from August 29 through November 2 and they too only offer one extra hour from 7:00 am to 8:00 am. You can enjoy this extra hour in both Fantasyland and Tommorowland.

They will still be offering the extra hours at Epcot as well, so you’ll be able to enjoy some extra time there before the park gets too crowded.

Important To Remember

If you want to be able to take advantage of any extra hours they might offer, you must be staying at one of their Walt Disney World Resorts and you must also have a theme park admission ticket as well as your hotel ID in order to get in during the times listed above.

It’s also important to note that any guests that do not have a Park Hopper Option or the Park Hopper Plus Option will have to spend the entire day at the same theme park where they used up the extra hours.

You should also know that not all of the Disney World attraction allow the Extra Magic Hours benefit package as well as the hours for any or all of the parks are always subject to change. They can also be subject to change without any notice as well as cancellations due to any number of reasons, but currently changes happen due to limited capacities due to the pandemic.

Do You Need A Separate Special Ticket For The Extra Magic Hours?

Anyone who has a valid theme park ticket are allowed to take advantage of their Extra Magic Hours benefits. You can find some of these extra hours are available to all guests registered at even these hotels:
