If you are planning a grand vacation from the UK to Disney World, you more than likely will want the full experience and if you have the money to spend, you might be looking at staying at one of their deluxe resorts. If this is the case, then the first question may be what deluxe Disney resort is the best? It’s important to know that when planning for this trip that not all of the Disney resorts are all equal. This is not to say that the moderate and value resorts are bad, but if you’re looking for luxury then you’ll want to splurge on the deluxe resorts. Here we’ll do our best to rate all of them so that it might make it easier for you to choose which one might be best for you.
Note: Our ratings in no way are saying that there are bad deluxe resorts at Disney, because none of them can be considered bad, it’s just to show you which ones are the best out of the eight they offer.
#’S 8 & 7 Beach Club Resort & Yacht Club Resort
These two resorts are “sister” resorts and that’s why they are ranked together at 8 and 7. Both of these resorts have a very serene theme to them and they are modeled after some of the seaside cottages of Rhode Island and Newport during the 19th century. They offer their guest some of the most relaxing atmospheres you can find at Disney World. The Yacht Club has a great New England nautical theme that reminds one of Martha’s Vineyard.
Both of the resorts have all the amenities one would expect from a deluxe resort and they share one of the best pools around called the Stormalong Bay complex and it includes sand bottom pools, a waterfall, a shipwreck water slide and a circular lazy river to float on. They also have a convention center and a variety of restaurants that include Cape May Cafe, Beaches & Cream Soda Shop, and the Yachtsman Steakhouse.
#6 Contemporary Resort
This is one of the more well known Disney World resorts. It’s an A-frame building with the monorail track running through it while the resort towers over Tomorrowland and has been part of Disney World since 1971.
The inside of the resort is defined by their huge Grand Canyon concourse and its Mary Blair murals and numerous restaurants that include their popular character dining experience with Mickey Mouse at Chef Mickey’s, The Wave, and their rooftop California Grill. This is a nice resort but the overall decor does tend to be a bit dated and seems to lack some of the luxury and magic that most guests expect from the deluxe resorts.
#5 Wilderness Lodge
When guests enter this lodge they immediately are engulfed by their eight story lobby that is rustic and has a National Park theme. Their grounds include geysers and rock work that mimics some of the best of America’s natural wonders. The National Park theme is extended into the guest rooms as well and the theme reaches into restaurants like the Artist Point and the Storybook Dining which gives diners the opportunity to meet and mingle with Snow White, the Evil Queen, and the Dwarfs.
Even though the theme at this resort is incredible the biggest knock against this resort is that since it’s so huge it is rather far away from the three of the theme parks. But they do offer a boat ride to some of the parks and of course the monorail takes guests to the Magic Kingdom.
#4 Boardwalk Inn And Villas
This resort has a Coney Island like them and has all the typical amenities of any deluxe resort. The resort recreates a seaside amusement pier that offers full on entertainment including dining at places like; Big River Grille & Brewing Company, Flying Fish Care, Trattoria al Forno, and the ESPN Club. They also offer some great nightlife such as; Atlantic Dance Hall, Jellyrolls, and Abracadabra. All of these things give the Boardwalk an authentic feel to it.
#3 Grand Floridian Resort & Spa
This resort tends to be considered their flagship resort. This is probably because of its Victorian theme that offers its guests quite opulent rooms and recreation areas that are designed to look like huge beach resorts that once lined the coast of Florida during the late 19th century and early 20th century. They also offer their guests a convention center, and their own Wedding Pavilion. If you are looking for a glamorous vacation, this deluxe resort would be top choice. Plus it’s conveniently located for getting to the Magic Kingdom by taking the monorail.
#2 Animal Kingdom Lodge
This resort has high quality rooms and their restaurants serve some of the best food around at places such as Jiko, Sanaa, and Boma. However, as nice as the rooms are and as good as the food is, the biggest attraction for guests is the massive African Savanna that covers the entire resort. People who stay here can experience viewing a variety of wildlife including; giraffes, cranes, antelope, and zebras. And they can see them right from their room balconies.
#1 Polynesian Village Resort
This tends to be the most popular because it tends to be the most luxurious Disney experience. Even though it opened in 1971, they have updated it several times over the years so they don’t look dated like the Contemporary is and it has a huge amount of restaurants to choose from including Ohana and Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto. The resort includes very lush beaches and the pool is built around a volcano and there are beautiful views of the Magic Kingdom. Most believe that the Polynesian is probably the “gold standard” for all deluxe resorts. If you are looking for leisure and top-notch luxury then this should be your top pick.
The tropical experience they offer their guests truly allows guests to feel like they really are on a tropical island paradise and can even make people forget about the fact that they are actually just a bus ride away from the Magic Kingdom. It’s great for couples who are looking for a romantic getaway. Some even feel like they could spend their entire vacation just at the resort and nowhere else.
