If you’re planning your first Disney World adventure from the UK, you’re probably wondering: when is the best time to visit Disney World Florida? Should you aim for spring, summer, autumn, or winter? What about special events, crowd levels, weather, ticket prices, and park hours?
In this guide, we’ll walk you through everything you need to know to pick the ideal window. We’re seasoned Disney World experts and have made multiple trips to Florida from the UK, so we can share our firsthand experience when it comes to crowds, cost, and comfort at different times of the year.
Here’s what we’ll cover:
- Key factors to weigh (crowds, weather, cost, events)
- Month-by-month breakdown (pros and cons)
- Best windows for UK travellers
- Tips to avoid busy days and make the most of your trip
You’re never going to feel like you have the parks to yourselves on your Walt Disney World vacation, but, based on your own specific situation and preferences, the time of year you choose will have a big impact on your enjoyment overall.
4 Important Factors When You’re Choosing The Best Time to Visit Walt Disney World
Before we look at the different seasons, let’s first examine the four big variables you’ll be juggling when you’re planning your Disney World vacation from the UK.
-
Crowd Levels & Crowd Calendar
You can do all the Disney vacation planning you want, but your holiday itself won’t run smoothly if you’re faced with massive queues and rammed parks. The more crowded the parks, the more time you’ll spend standing about or queuing instead of actually enjoying yourself.
The good news is that you don’t have to guess the crowds on any given day, as plenty of Disney planning sites publish a crowd calendar that estimates expected crowds based on historic evidence. Undercover Tourist has a popular one that you can check out here.
You can use these calendars to get a general idea of what the crowds will be like month-by-month, which (assuming you have some flexibility with when you can travel) should help you choose a specific time of the year.
-
Weather & Florida Seasons
The weather in Central Florida can vary pretty significantly depending on when you visit. Half the year is dry, pleasant, and occasionally cold enough to warrant a coat, while the other half is boiling hot and humid, with regular (but thankfully fleeting) unpredictable rain showers.
If you don’t do well in heat, you’ll want to avoid Disney World during July to mid-September. But if you want to be able to wear dresses and shorts on your trip, don’t visit during winter (unless, of course, you want to experience the Disney holiday magic around Christmas).
-
Ticket Prices & Hotel Deals
Theme park tickets in Walt Disney World are priced according to the time of year. That means, during peak demand, tickets are more expensive than they are during off-peak seasons.
The price of hotels (especially Disney resort hotels) also vary by season. We’ve found that you get the best deals on a hotel stay during quieter times (including May, September, and early November). So, if you’re tight on cash, it’s worth picking a time of year that won’t have you remortgaging the house for lower ticket and hotel costs.
-
Events, Festivals & Seasonal Entertainment
Walt Disney World hosts a growing selection of special events and seasonal events throughout the year, some of which are free, and some of which require you to spend extra on dedicated tickets. Some of the most popular events include:
- The EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival
- The EPCOT Flower & Garden Festival
- Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party (at Magic Kingdom)
- Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party (also at Magic Kingdom)
- Holiday décor and seasonal entertainment around Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year
If you’re set on attending one of these events, this will play a big role in dictating when you travel. But those events also attract more people, so you’ll need to be happy to compromise with larger crowds if you desperately want to experience them.

Best Windows for UK Visitors to Visit Disney World
Given your possible constraints (likely kids’ school terms, flight costs, jet lag, etc.), here are some of the best times to visit Walt Disney World:
Late August → Early September (after Labour Day in the US)
After US schools go back, most families wrap up their summer vacations. You’ll often find fewer crowds and get access to the best hotel deals, while still enjoying full park operations. Plus, the weather is milder compared to peak summer. The catch is that you’re still in hurricane season, so there’s always the risk of park closures, depending on the weather.
Mid-January to mid-February (excluding MLK / Presidents Day weeks)
The parks are much quieter during mid-Jan-to-mid-Feb. The weather at this time of the year is cooler but comfortable (think spirit jersey weather, and take a coat just in case!). If you’re happy limiting your water park time, this is one of the lowest-crowd seasons.
Late April → early May (before Memorial Day weekend)
You get warmer weather, in late April to early May, with long daylight hours, and relatively moderate crowds. Just make sure to dodge the school holiday weeks if you can.
Early to mid-November (before Thanksgiving week)
This season brings lovely weather that’s not too hot or cold, and you’ll get to experience the excitement of the build-up to the festive season. Crowds are moderate as long as you jump ahead of the Thanksgiving surge.
If you’ve got travel flexibility, we’d recommend planning your Disney World holiday for late August/early September or April/early May. These seasons both tend to offer the best compromise for a first visit from the UK.
Tips to Make the Most of Your Disney Trip (No Matter When You Go)
Picking the right time to visit the Disney World theme parks is a good start, but don’t forget about the execution! Here are some practical strategies to make the most of your Disney trip regardless of the season:
- Always consult a crowd calendar for your prospective dates. Some days in a particular month will be much quieter than others, depending on holidays and calendar dates in the US.
- Head to the parks right when they open (rope drop) and stay late if possible. The first and last hours tend to have the shortest queues.
- In hot months especially, take a proper break in the middle of the day.
- Take advantage of the discounts that Disney offers for theme park tickets or packages during slower seasons.
- Stay at a Disney Resort for Perks. Staying on property often grants you extras like early access and extended evening hours, which help you beat heavy crowds. Disney Parks Blog
- Accept that you won’t be able to fit everything into your holiday! If there’s a particular park or event that you really want to attend, plan your trip around when those run.
Summary: When Is the Best Time to Visit Disney World?
So, with all that said, when do we recommend visiting Disney World from the UK?
There’s no single perfect time that will tick every box for every family. But when it comes to the best weather, the lowest crowds, most affordable pricing, and decent park operations, these windows stand out:
- Late August to early September
- Late April to early May
- Mid-January to mid-February
- Early to mid-November
Having travelled to Disney World at various times throughout the year, we’d personally recommend early September or May. From experience, these times have the lowest crowds and lovely weather, and you’ll typically get the best deals because you’re travelling “off-season”.
